Estate Antique Victorian 1850s 9K Gold Oval Pietra Dura Brooch/Pendant. The lovely design of pink cabbage rose. Forget-me-nots and lily has been mosaic cut and placed in a black onyx base. Note how this type of mosaic work has been artfully and skillfully set flush to the piece. The frame mount is unmarked, but tested to be 9 kt gold and is twisted spiral 9k gold.
The spiral is made up of solid and etched twists which add to the elegance this piece deserves. The reverse of the brooch is open backed and there are no issues with the integrity of the piece. Condition excellent for age and wear. There are some small cracks die to age but not noticable to the naked eye.
I have taken a photo against a white background so that you can see any and all defects. Truly a beautiful piece of history. This was an estate find within my family. The Judy referred to in to first note, of which her grandmother was the original owner, would be 102 today if she were still alive.
This is how I determined the age of the piece along with research and help of a local jeweler. Examine my photos closely, thank you Measures; 3 3/4 inch length by 2 inch wide, 36 grams total weight, oval shape.
