This is likely made in Europe during the 1880s. We are currently working on a Horner data base.
We have countless receipts from the RJ Horner firm that lists their Branch houses. London, Paris, Venice and Vienna. Thats why when you see on their PAPER LABELS they read RJ Horner furniture makers and importers. So anyway, this piece was likely made in Europe possibly at one of the firms Horner imported from. Good condition with some flaws to the base. Robert Ley - Robert Ley was a German politician during the Nazi era who headed the German Labour Front. Ley was very wealthy during his reign with HItler. Ley did horrible things during his life time which led up to his suicide before trial. Brought over to the United States after Robert Leys death by a United States Chaplain after the war. This server along with the entire dining set found its way to a log cabin in Bear Creek, Pennsylvania. The server was stored in the basement, for the next 60 years. Years After the chaplains death the family decided to part ways with the server, sideboard and grandfather clock. The sideboard was on the 2nd floor and after years of remodeling needed to be taken out of the second story window needing a lift to remove it. The family kept the dining table and chairs. Although they never shared photos.
Here is an opportunity, to own something with a interesting history. This piece and documents can be viewed in Adamstown PA.
