This Victorian Era ornamental cast and wrought iron Fireplace Fender and Andirons came out of an ancient country estate in North Central Pennsylvania. The set dates to circa 1900 § could be 20 years either way but it is Early, HEAVY and Highly Decorative with flourishes, curves, spheres and curlycues § tied overall by the heavy twisted iron lengths, probably these were forged. The size is 45" long x 12" x 10" § and the andirons are 19" tall - weight is over 50 pounds total for the set.The fender has charming button feet and is signed PAT APPL'D FOR. The andirons are signed PATENTED and, above the twist, there is, I believe, a rectangular raised box with pointed ends § I can't tell what it says, perhaps a number but maybe a shopmark § I spent an hour trying to identify it § possibly nothing but I believe it is another mark of some sort. The pieces are very stylish and may have influence from Oscar Bach or Yellin. More than just a pretty picture.
