This is a gorgeous antique Victorian sterling silver book chain necklace. The necklace is beautifully designed with intricate engravings. This incredible piece of history was found in a trunk in the attic of an old Victorian estate in London, England.
The silver collar has intricately done fancy engravings and is 20 mm wide at its widest point. The necklace measures 17-3/4 in length and closes with a large spring ring clasp. CONDITION - THIS NECKLACE HAS SOME SURFACE DENTS AND DINGS ON THE BACK SIDE AND ON ONE OF THE END CAPS - please see photos #14, #15, #16, #17 and #18. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE SPRING RING CLASP IS ORIGINAL TO THIS PIECE. Often times, these book chains due to their age have some flattened links, this one has none and is in nice condition - even with the dents and dings in this piece - obviously well cared for, for over a century and it once belonged to a grand old lady in a time long ago. This is an incredible find and will appeal to antique collectors of these necklaces. MEASUREMENTS - The book chain necklace measures 17.5 long including the clasp.
The necklace measures 20 mm wide at its widest points. WEIGHT - a hefty 79.3 grams - see photo #2. HALLMARKED - THERE ARE NO HALLMARKS ON THIS PIECE BUT IT IS TESTED AND CONFIRMED TO BE STERLING SILVER. CONDITION - This piece is in very good condition for its age. It has light surface marks, dings and dents that are common for Victorian bookchain pieces of this age.
The chain is free flowing and kink free with the clasp working perfectly and holding securely. Please check out my other jewelry listings.
