Because of different gold testing practices (acid, electronic and x ray), items stamped 14k may read or actually be between 13.5k-15k gold. Until 1981, manufactures of jewelry could use gold that was 13.5karat or higher and round off, thus still stamping it 14k. This goes for 18k gold also. National Gold and Silver Marking Act of 1981. Most of the items I sell are vintage or antique.
They have had a previous life. You might find some minor imperfections or flaws. This is to be expected and adds to the individual character of the item.
