Exquisite and highly detailed early to mid Victorian shell cameo set in a gold (unmarked but tested) frame, with a silver pin closure. Equipped with both a brooch pin and a chain pin for safety. This style of helmet shell cameo was in vogue prior to the death of King Albert as he gifted these to Queen Victoria, who in turn made them a popular accessory.

Later during the American Civil War woman would have custom pieces done in late mourning to commemorate a loved one. This could be easily adapted to a pendant and worn as a necklace. Most likely dating to the early 1800s to mid 1870s Measures approximately 1 5/8" long by 1 3/8" wide.
