Beautifully Restored Electrified 1800s English Oil Lamp from Prominent Estate

  
I acquired this unique lamp at an estate sale of several generations of a very prominent Louisiana family of attorneys and judges. Based on the type of wiring and plug that existed when I bought it, I would say the lamp had been electrified back in the 1920s or 1930s. I have cleaned, polished and re-wired this early lamp. The lamp is solid brass with a ceramic base. It has a beautiful cut glass amber shade.

It weighs over nine pounds. The total height of the lamp with the chimney is just under 23. The very bottom brass riser of the lamp has been drilled for the cord.

The heavy black ceramic base has not been drilled. The condition is incredible, considering this lamp is well over 100 years old.

The most prominent "character mark" is a minor dent or crease in the brass. I decided not to rub it out, as it is a part of the lamp's history and doesn't detract from the lamp's appearance at all. The crease can be seen in Photo 7. There is very little online regarding the E. Shaw Lamp Company, but it is clear that the lamp was manufactured in England sometime during the 18th century.

All wiring , fixtures and switch are brand new, so this lamp can be used and enjoyed. This beautiful and unique lamp would make an excellent addition to any home or office!
