VICTORIAN OR OLDER KARAT GOLD-FRONT,'BOOK' CHAIN LINK NECKLACE (AND LOCKET). Book' chain style antique necklace, in an arrangement suitable for a locket or charm. Length of necklace is 18 inches x 5/16 wide, with the dangle section being 1 7/8 inches. The front side has a design of dotted-line above three stalked florets.

The reverse has a vertical wheat pattern. Both sides of each link has an overlay of very thin karat gold, commonly called'gold front'.

Gold fronts were common cost saving measures. In all, counting front and back, there are 96 little pieces (about 7 1/2 mm x 7 1/2 mm & about 1/2 mm thick) of gold. Metal testing indicated about 9K purity.
