Victorian Edwardian 10k Gold Opals Pearls Watch Pin 2.4 Gms Tucson Estate
From a Green Valley estate south of Tucson is this Victorian or possibly Edwardian wreath form watch pin of 10K solid yellow gold, with five (5) opals and thirty (30) half pearls to help things along. The ornament is well wrought, with tendril like twigs and and a leafy spiral providing an almost kinetic visual implication. A 90 degree pin retained by a tongue style C-clasp is proper for the period, and there is a ring suspender securely fitted at bottom back. Such brooches were specifically meant to secure an inverted lapel watch for occasional reference by a nanny or nurse (or in some cases their more well heeled employer). Of course the more decorative examples as this one might easily adorn a blouse with or without the timepiece. There is no specific karat marking, just "GOLD" (the "G" somewhat obscured by gold solder from the crafting) to the clasp - that said I personally tested, and it is 10K. Weight is good for the form at about 2.4 grams on my portable digital scale. Condition is quite fine with an aura of time to the surfaces. The opals show appropriate fire.
The pin and C-clasp are still ready for further service. A look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Size is about 29/32 in. If you prefer antique and vintage for constructive quality or the road less travelled, or simply wish a single immediate improvement to the ambiance of each day, this will have great meaning for you.
